Amanda Staveley: The real reason for Newcastle United exit revealed
Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have stepped down from Newcastle United as they’ve done their expected jobs.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Pete O’Rourke suggested Saudia Arabia’s PiF will have bought out the husband and wife duo at a “healthy price” and will continue to plough huge investment into the club.
Staveley and her husband have sold their six per cent stake in the club, leading to PIF taking further control, which works out “nicely for both parties.”
PIF now owns 85 per cent of the north east giants, and Staveley and Ghodoussi are standing down from all of their club positions at the same time.
O’Rourke suspects that they will have been bought out at a “healthy price,” and the focus will now shift to what’s next for Newcastle.
Newcastle United’s owners are ready to take complete control
Staveley was involved with the Magpies for almost three years after she initially brokered the takeover from Mike Ashley.
“Amanda was obviously key to the takeover wasn’t she, she took the deal to the Saudis and put it all together,” O’Rourke told Football Insider.
“Now the club is under the ownership it is, they’re obviously very, very comfortable with where they are.
“Confident with the setup they’ve got off the field and they want to take full control and full ownership of their own football club, which is understandable.

“You can understand the links possibly to other clubs for them to go on and to get a takeover.
“But as far as Newcastle is concerned it’s almost like, ‘your jobs done here, we want to take full ownership of our club.’”
