'Amateur hour' – Sutton can't believe what this Rangers man has done before clash v Celtic
Chris Sutton has slammed Rangers chairman Dave King for his statement that said Rangers would be looking for the best man for the manager’s job in the summer.
The statement came in the week before Rangers’ biggest game of the season, the Scottish Cup semi-final against bitter rivals Celtic.
And Sutton claims that it will have done his side no good at all and heaped more pressure on manager Graeme Murty.
Writing in his column in the Daily Record, Sutton said: “Celtic are heading towards a double treble and Rangers need to stop them. It doesn’t get any bigger.
“Which is why it was a bizarre time for Dave King to come out and take the legs out from under his manager by talking about getting the right man for the job.
“His comments haven’t done Graeme Murty any favours. For him to come out and say that kind of stuff at the start of the week only cranks the pressure up on the man in charge.

“If he doesn’t win at Hampden and stop the back-to-back trebles there’s no way I can see him surviving. But if he manages to get past Celtic, wins the
Scottish Cup and finishes second, what then? Talk about an awkward situation.
“It sums up Rangers this season. It’s been amateur hour at times and far too volatile.”
Football Insider verdict:
Murty has come out and said he has no problem with the statement made by King but what else could he say? It wasn’t great timing at all and most people will think that Murty has been trated pretty shoddily. Yes, he’s made some mistakes along the way, but let’s not forget that he’s stepped up whenever he’s asked and done his best – certainly better than the previous manager who Rangers spent a lot of money on. Whether he gets the job in the summer or not, Murty has made the Ranger side better than when he took over. We’d like to see him get a chance, with at least a one-year rolling contract. To do that though, he needs to beat Celtic on Sunday – there’s no two ways about that.
