Teenage striker Mallik Wilks has shared his joy at new club Accrington Stanley after agreeing to exit Leeds United earlier in the summer.
The 18-year-old bright prospect agreed a new four-year deal at Elland Road on August 24 before then leaving for the League Two side on loan until January the same day.
He has since scored twice in five matches for the Lancashire-based club, including bagging the winner in the weekend’s 2-1 victory over Chesterfield.
The teenager has now spoken of his delight after making the decision to leave Leeds temporarily this summer and Whites fans will surely be glad to see he’s now finding his feet in the professional game.
“I was going through a bit of a drought,” told Wilks, as quoted by the official Accrington website.
“It’s amazing really, to come on and score the winner is brilliant. To get the equaliser at Notts County was great but to go and get all three points for the lads is even better.
“The travelling fans were brilliant again and it was nice to be able to share the moment and celebrate my goal with them. They made the effort to travel to Chesterfield and support us and it was important that we were able to repay them with the win.
“I’ve had a great start to my life at Accrington, it’s been the dream start and I hope it can continue.”
Wilks has previously been limited to just one senior appearance for the Leeds team, which came as the Yorkshire giants suffered a 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup against Sutton in January.
However, the teenager has been pinpointed as a bright prospect in the Elland Road side’s academy ranks and each of Thomas Christiansen, Wilks and the fans themselves will be keen to see the young forward continue with his scoring run.
Leeds, meanwhile currently have each of Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Jay-Roy Grot, Pawel Cibicki and Caleb Ekuban in their senior striking ranks and the Yorkshire giants have started the season in excellent form at the top of the table after eight games.
In other Leeds United news, Christiansen has confirmed this key player will miss the midweek Burnley clash.
