Report: Italian giants eye swoop for Spurs stars seen as complete midfielder
Tottenham Hotspur could have a battle on their hands to keep Mousa Dembele with Italian giants AC Milan ready to launch a bid for the midfielder, according to a report.
Corriere dello Sport has suggested that the Milan giants are interested in the 30-year-old who has struggled for game time this season under Mauricio Pochettino, after failing to shake off a niggling ankle injury.
Spurs’ boss already has a wealth of quality in the centre of midfield and with Gennaro Gattuso eager to bring in enforcements in the midfield zone to take the pressure off Franck Kessie, it is a move that could make sense.
The report claimed that he is seen as the complete midfielder.
Dembele has been limited to just 11 appearances for the north Londoners this season and will need match fitness if he is going to be ready to represent Belgium at the World Cup this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
This is a move that would make sense for all parties. Spurs have too many options, AC Milan too few, and Dembele needs games under his belt. Under new ownership, the Rossoneri have been busy acquiring new players and indeed in the summer brought in ten new players to the San Siro. However, Milan are floundering in mid-table, struggling to find consistency, and in need of defensive options – after conceding 27 goals in 19 games, Dembele would definitely provide the Rossoneri rearguard with some much needed protection.
