Amorim ‘crazy’ as Hojlund decision slammed at Man United – ‘Don’t like that’

Ruben Amorim has caused bewilderment with his treatment of Rasmus Hojlund as the Man United striker continues to struggle in front of goal.

Amorim has come under serious pressure at Man United due to some of his decisions, all of which have ultimately come together to sink the Red Devils to 13th in the Premier League table.

The former Sporting CP figure has attempted to bring his own playing style to Old Trafford, far different to what fans expected from Erik ten Hag, but that has been made much harder with the current squad.

With the clash against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, 1 April, a chance for the Red Devils to build momentum, many expected a similar lineup to the one that thrashed Leicester City 3-0 before the international break.

However, with four changes made from that starting XI, Clinton Morrison has fired criticism at the United manager for taking Hojlund out of the spotlight again despite ending a 13-game drought in front of goal.

Rasmus Hojlund benched after Man United thrashing against Leicester City

Speaking live via Sky Sports Soccer Special ahead of kick off [1 April, 7:16pm] former striker Morrison said: “Crazy. It’s crazy. Hojlund scored last time out against Leicester, and you want him to get confidence, but he’s on the bench and Zirkzee’s in.

“I don’t get it with Ruben Amorim, I totally don’t get it. We’re critical of Hojlund; he gets a goal against Leicester, and he’ll be thinking his confidence is sky-high. He might have a different game plan, but it’s not good for the centre-forward in Hojlund. I don’t like that.”

Ruben Amorim still yet to discover his best Man United XI as struggles continue

Football Insider verdict

With just three league goals to his name this season, following a 16-goal campaign during his first term in England, Man United already look prepared to sell Hojlund once the summer transfer window opens.

While Joshua Zirkzee has also struggled in front of goal, netting just three times in 29 league appearances, Bruno Fernandes has been forced to take matters into his own hands at times.

2. Amad6
3. Alejandro Garnacho/Marcus Rashford4
4. Joshua Zirkzee/Rasmus Hojlund3
5. Lisandro Martinez/Matthijs de Ligt2
Bruno Fernandes has carried the weight of Man United on his shoulders.

Until Amorim can bring his favoured type of players to Old Trafford in the next transfer window, it will be extremely difficult for him to implement his own style, so he is doing his best to adapt.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting schemes at Man United will make a squad overhaul all the more difficult during the summer, so several offloads will be needed first before funds can be freed up.

Sadly for Hojlund, that could mean his time in Manchester could come to a rather pathetic ending, with supporters ready to cash in and sign a figure like Viktor Gyokeres or Liam Delap.
