Amoruso: I was delighted by this Caixinha decision at Rangers

Rangers legend Lorenzo Amoruso has hailed the decision of manager Pedro Caixinha to hand Kenny Miller a new contract and feels he will be a crucial player next season.

The 37-year-old was given a one-year contract extension back in April and is set to be involved in the first-team plans at Ibrox next season.

He is now reaching the latter stages of his career, but proved last season that he remains a crucial member of the squad.

The veteran forward made 47 appearances across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and supplying eight assists in return.

Ex-Gers defender Amoruso has revealed his delight that Miller has been kept by Caixinha, despite the manager’s summer overhaul of players.

“The new manager will want to bring his own players in but I was happy that he gave Kenny a contract,” Amoruso told the Scottish Sun. “You need players who know what it means to play for Rangers — and that’s Kenny.

“Yes, he’s getting older now but he is still in great condition and he will be very important for Rangers during the course of this season.”

Caixinha has been extremely busy in the summer window so far and added eight new recruits to Ibrox ahead of next season.

Mexican duo Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera both completed moves to Ibrox on Thursday, who join Alfredo Morelos, Fabio Cardoso, Daniel Candeias, Ryan Jack, Bruno Alves and Dalcio as new additions.

However, the club’s supporters will be keen to have players with Scottish league experience in their side and Miller has that in abundance.

The striker has had three different spells with the Gers, scoring 98 goals in 240 appearances in return.
