Andre Onana reacts to Matthijs De Ligt’s message as Man United exit gathers pace

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has responded to team mate Matthjis De Light as he looks likely to leave Old Trafford this summer.

It was exclusively revealed by Football Insider that Untied will accept a cut-price offer for the goalkeeper.

Ligue 1 side Monaco have expressed interest in the 29-year-old as manager Ruben Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper.

Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez is a target if Onana leaves the club after two years in Manchester.

De Ligt message liked by Onana

United defender de Ligt posted pictures of his post-season break, which was liked by his team mate Onana.

De Ligt captioned the post: “Holiday tick, work mode on.”

The Dutchman appeared 42 times for the Red Devils last season, scoring two goals but a knee injury limited his impact at the back end of the campaign.

He was signed under former manager Erik ten Hag from Bayern Munich for £38.5million last summer.

Amorim needs to strengthen goalkeeping position

Football Insider Verdict

Onana was signed as a goalkeeper that could help develop United’s build-up from the back, but his poor form has more hindered than helped the Red Devils.

The Cameroon international has also not impressed at times with some weak goalkeeping and costly errors.

United’s number two Altay Bayindir also failed to impress when given the opportunity last season, prompting Amorim to explore the market this summer.

His number one choice looks to be Aston Villa’s Martinez, who is one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

Martinez’s vocal personality would add to Amorim’s small circle of leaders in his squad, and his strong shot stopping ability would save United crucial points.

To improve United, Amorim needs to get a deal over the line, but he also needs to strengthen the core of the squad and his defensive unit.

The Portuguese is so far prioritising his attack and lack of goals, but he will need to find another solution to his striker problem as Viktor Gyokeres looks set to join Arsenal.

He also faces up to four forwards leaving after Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho all expressed their desire to leave the club.

Amorim though has been unsuccessful in agreeing a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, with Wolves’ Matheus Cunha the only major signing of the window so far.
