Andy Reid delivers verdict on Tottenham Premier League title chances

By Matt Farr

Former Tottenham midfielder Andy Reid has backed Tottenham to pip Chelsea to the Premier League title this season.

Tottenham are currently second in the league, seven points behind the league leaders, and they have won their last six league games on the bounce – including a victory over Chelsea at the start of the month.

They have been beaten only twice in the league this season, and have scored 43 goals since the start of the campaign, the fourth-highest total in the whole of the top-tier.

Reid, who spent two seasons at White Hart Lane, hailed the quality in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and believes they are the one side capable of catching Chelsea.

He told 888Sport: “I definitely think they’ll push Chelsea close. It’s going to be very difficult for anyone to catch Chelsea at the moment but if anyone can it looks like it could be Tottenham.

“I watched the game at the weekend and they were absolutely fantastic. They just brushed West Brom aside. They played good, attacking, Tottenham-like football and that’s what the fans like to see.

“Harry Kane is on fire and Dembele and Eriksen are playing really well, while they look tight at the back.”

As well as building a potent attacking force, Pochettino has also built one of the best defensive units in the Premier League. They have conceded just 14 goals this season, the lowest of any side, including Chelsea.

They’ve been in fine form of late, and will be looking to extend their run when they take on title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday.

Spurs came very close to lifting the Premier League title last season, only for a late slip in form to end their hopes. They ended up finishing third, behind north London rivals Arsenal.

But Pochettino and co are determined to make amends this season, and lift their first league title in 56 years.

In other Tottenham news, Ian Wright believes Harry Kane can beat this all-time Premier League record.
