Andy Townsend: This criticised Aston Villa star deserves a chance
By Amir Mir
Andy Townsend believes Aston Villa star, Ross McCormack “deserves a chance” after he failed to turn up to training last week.
Steve Bruce revealed that the senior player cited “faulty gates” as a reason as to why he missed training in the lead up to the Preston fixture on Saturday.
Villa drew 2-2 with Simon Grayson’s side at the weekend with McCormack left out of the matchday squad.
Club legend Townsend explained the decision McCormack now has to make after his public humiliation by his manager.
“He has got a choice now McCormack,” Townsend told the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live. “He can either mope, get the hump and be all that he is being victimised. Or sort yourself out, son.

“I think everyone deserves a chance, but I don’t think you deserve too many.”
With McCormack’s absence, Bruce’s side currently have only one senior striker at the club as they bid to close the gap on the top six after dropping more points against Preston.
Attacking duo Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew are away at the Africa Cup of Nations, while target-man Libor Kozak has not featured for a single minute since Bruce’s arrival in October.
Villa’s next game was due to be played this Saturday against Bristol City, but Lee Johnson’s side are in FA Cup action.
Therefore, their next Championship encounter will be against Brentford at the end of this month with Bruce looking to add more attacking additions to his squad.
They have already signed midfielder Henri Lansbury from Nottingham Forest and are looking to add Barnsley duo Conor Hourihane and James Bree to their squad.
In other Aston Villa news, this Championship ace snubbed a big money move to Premier League giants which would delight Villa fans.
