Ange Postecoglou ‘holds Tottenham talks’ in new sack twist
Ange Postecoglou has held internal meetings with the Tottenham hierarchy over January transfers as he currently looks set to stay at the club, according to The Telegraph.
According to the outlet’s website on 9 December, Spurs are “not planning to make any knee-jerk reactions” regarding Postecoglou’s future.
Johan Lange, the Tottenham technical director, has already held transfer meetings with the Australian. With January approaching, it appears the North London team is backing their coach for now.
This news follows a painful 4-3 derby loss to Chelsea, where Spurs were 2-0 up. The defeat has left fans frustrated, with many insisting that Postecoglou should be sacked in the wake of the result.
Football Insider has reported that Postecoglou is set to be in charge to face bottom side Southampton and the club hierarchy believes he still has “credit in the bank”.
Tottenham must support Ange Postecoglou before things take a turn for the worse
Football Insider opinion
The former Celtic head coach is facing widespread criticism. Fans are in uproar, with many turning on him—some even personally—following their 1-0 loss to Bournemouth on 5 December.
Jamie Carragher offered a critical breakdown of Tottenham’s playing style on Sky Sports, stating they “won’t win anything” unless they adapt. He criticised their reliance on a single approach, saying, “one way of playing won’t work”.

Former club scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Daniel Levy will not take any responsibility for the club’s failings, suggesting that a sacking could still be imminent.
However, this seems to be a familiar pattern in North London. Belief in the coach fades quickly, and Levy often succumbs to pressure, as seen when he sacked José Mourinho just before a cup final.
Spurs are in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and are likely to qualify for the Europa League knockout stages. Postecoglou has previously noted that he “always wins in his second season” [BBC Sport] so a dismissal could mean yet another season without silverware.
Of course, there’s no guarantee of success, but it’s important to remember this is the same team that defeated Manchester City 4-0 away. They also knocked them out of the League Cup not long ago. It’s unlikely the players have fully given up just yet.
It seems the hierarchy hasn’t entirely lost faith either, but time is undoubtedly ticking.
