Ange Postecoglou sack now ‘more likely than not’ at Nottingham Forest

Ange Postecoglou is fighting to save his job at Nottingham Forest just one month after he was hired to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

Postecoglou’s side lost 2-0 to Newcastle on 5 October, meaning the boss has now gone seven games without a win in all competitions since his appointment.

Three defeats in the past week have seen the pressure on his position ramped up, as Forest fans were singing “sacked in the morning” during the loss against Midtjylland.

Evangelos Marinakis is not one to sit on his hands and let the club continue to fall, and he has now been tipped to make a significant decision on the manager’s future.

Postecoglou has confirmed his desire to continue fighting to turn things around, but he may not be given the opportunity after revealing talks were due to be held.

Ange Postecoglou ‘more likely than not’ to suffer Nottingham Forest sack

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 29 September that Postecoglou is facing growing tensions at Nottingham Forest amid questions about his position.

Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, exclusively told Football Insider that there is a growing feeling that his dismissal is now more likely than not during the international break following yet another defeat.

I have no doubt questions will be asked of Postecoglou,” he told Football Insider.

“Given how the owner there tends to operate, he’s not going to be afraid to pull the trigger if things aren’t working, and at the moment it clearly isn’t.

“Going into the international break, it’s probably more likely than not because it gives them a couple of weeks to sort things out and find somebody else.

“They’re coming off the back of a fantastic season, so this season was always going to be difficult.

“I’m not sure they were ever going to match what they did last time, even with Nuno in charge.

“Now, Postecoglou has come in and he wants to change their whole style of play, they’ve gone from a defensively solid counter-attacking side, to the opposite.

“That style didn’t work at Tottenham, and it’s not working at Forest, so the owner will be looking at that and they’ll be concerned about the results because they haven’t been good enough.

“The problem is, you lose a few games and all of a sudden the sky falls on top of you.

“It seems they’re going to have talks, the manager and the owner, so we’ll see what comes of that because it didn’t exactly end well for Nuno.”

Wayne Rooney has slammed suggestions Postecoglou could be sacked, with calls for the boss to be given time, although the decision will rest with Marinakis.

Nottingham Forest eye replacements for Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest are already believed to be assessing potential replacements for Postecoglou in case they do decide to pull the trigger.

Oliver Glasner, Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna have all been linked with the role, while there are believed to be a number of contenders on their list.

Reports have claimed Glasner is the dream option for Marinakis, with his exemplary work at Crystal Palace attracting interest in a number of high-profile jobs.

However, Palace will understandably be reluctant to lose the boss, as Football Insider revealed Crystal Palace are doing everything to keep Glasner at Selhurst Park.

Instead, Forest may be forced to assess their other options if Postecoglou is cut adrift, with Marinakis not afraid to make big calls when necessary.
