Ange Postecoglou sack: Tottenham ‘increasingly eye Marco Silva’ at Fulham

Marco Silva is attracting “increasingly admiring looks” from Tottenham, according to a report from The Independent.

Inconsistency has plagued Spurs’ season so far under Ange Postecoglou and they have won just one of their last seven games following a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday (8 December).

That has led to growing pressure on the Australian boss from the club’s supporters, and it now seems as though potential replacements are being considered.

It is thought that Silva’s work with Fulham, has now seen him catch plenty of admiring glances from Tottenham.

The Portuguese manager guided the Cottagers to the Championship title in his first season in charge in 2021/22, and they have never looked like being relegated from the Premier League since they.

After a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday, in which they managed to frustrate their title-chasing opponents, his side sit tenth in the top-flight table, one position and three points better off than Spurs.

Marco Silva interest from Tottenham does make sense

It is perhaps no surprise that Silva is generating this sort of interest thanks to his work at Craven Cottage.

Many had tipped Fulham for an immediate relegation when they first won promotion under him, as had previously happened to the club under other managers.

However, he managed to avoid that without any real problems, and the club have instead become an established top-flight side.

Marco Silva could be a contender to take charge at Tottenham in the future

That has shown Silva has the ability to take a team to the next level, something it feels Tottenham need to do now.

After the early optimism under Postecoglou things once again appear to have stagnated, and it is hard to see how they will be successful if they continue to play the way they are under him.

Such a situation may eventually force Tottenham into a change, and a proven Premier League manager with a track record of exceeding expectations – such as Silva – may be just what they need.

In other news, a new Spurs signing is due to jet in imminently before his move becomes official in January.
