Ange Postecoglou will leave Celtic amid Everton links – ‘it’s inevitable’, says McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has insisted Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic departure is “inevitable”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker claimed Postecoglou wants to make an impact in Europe with the Glasgow club.

The Aussie boss has been linked with the Everton job should the Toffees sack Frank Lampard and more recently with the Japan national team job should they get rid of Hajime Moriyasu.

But, as quoted by the Scotsman (17 November), the 57-year-old said he “loves” what he is doing at Celtic is so “passionate” about the club and being successful.

Postecoglou added that he hasn’t achieved what he wants to with the club yet.

McAvennie insisted the speculation won’t worry the Hoops manager.

You do not take much notice of it as a manager, it is just a recognition that you are doing well,” he told Football Insider.

Ange is doing very well, he is doing better than what anyone expected. His type of football is refreshing. He is going to be linked but I do not think he would leave Celtic for Japan, same with Everton.

Everton is like a hot chalice at the moment, nobody can seem to get a hold of it. I do not think they would be willing to make the changes that Celtic did.

Celtic

To get the kind of players that he needs into the club. I do not think the players at Everton would not buy into Ange at the moment.

It would be a long-term project. Everton is a wonderful club but they are not bigger than Celtic. I think he will go, it is inevitable. But at this moment in time he wants to make an impact in Europe with Celtic.
