Ched Evans has signed for Preston North End, Football Insider understands.
He has put pen to paper on a short-term deal running until the end of the season.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider an announcement is expected soon.
This site revealed last week the club were in “advanced talks” over a deal for the 32-year-old after he was bombed out of Fleetwood Town.
The Daily Mail reported in December former Town manager Joey Barton had told Evans he was free to find a new club after Barton took offence to a joke the striker made.
Evans’ situation on the Fylde coast has not changed despite Barton leaving Highbury on Monday.
Alex Neil told LancsLive ahead of PNE’s Saturday FA Cup third-round clash with Wycombe Wanderers that he expected the club to sign at least one more player before the game.
The north-west outfit added Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jayson Molumby on loan until the end of the season on Tuesday evening.
It now appears that Evans was the signing Neil was referring to this morning.
With Preston being heavily reliant on widemen Scott Sinclair and Tom Barkhuizen for their goals this season the Scot is hoping Evans will bring much needed firepower.
Strikers Emil Riis, Jayden Stockley and Sean Maguire have scored just six goals between them in the Championship this term.
Evans has found the net five times in 17 League One games this term.
In other news, Football Insider understands Preston North End are in pole position to sign a midfielder ahead of their Championship rivals.
