Anthony Elanga reacts to Neco Williams as Nottingham Forest transfer decision is made

Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga has responded to team mate Neco Williams’ significant transfer verdict.

Williams appeared 39 times for the club last season, establishing himself as a regular starter for Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 24-year-old joined the club from Liverpool in 2022 in a £17million deal and has earned himself 47 caps for Wales.

Forest enjoyed a successful campaign last season finishing seventh in the table to secure Europa Conference League football.

Williams has signed a new Forest contract

Williams posts Forest announcement

Taking to Instagram (1 July), Williams shared the news that he had signed a new deal at Forest.

The Welshman said: “Grateful for the trust the club has shown in me and the support from everyone around me!

“The hard work doesn’t stop here. Excited for what’s ahead this season in Europe and the Premier League.”

His current contract was due to expire in 2026, but the fresh terms ensure he is contracted at the City Ground until 2029.

Team mate Elanga, who is linked with a move away from the club this summer, liked the post and commented: “Congrats Neco laaaaa,” with a fingers crossed emoji.

Ola Aina also responded by saying: “FB Union,” with two love heart emojis.

Williams responded questioning Aina into whether he will also sign a new contract and he also responded to Callum Hudson-Odoi’s comment with “your turn now.”

Forest need to continue keeping hold of key players

Football Insider verdict

This is an excellent piece of business by Forest as they look to keep hold of their key players.

European football will stretch the squad, and Williams is expected to continue to play a key role at full-back in the team.

At 24 and with just two years left on his deal, Williams would have gotten attention from fellow Premier League clubs.

Santo will now look to tie down fellow full-back Ola Aina, who is also reportedly close to signing a new deal.

The future of Elanga still looks uncertain, but if Nuno can keep his core set of players then Forest should be tough opposition to play against again next season.

Signings are expected to arrive at the City Ground and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been linked with the club.

Forest are on an upward trajectory and Santo is keen to lead the team forward in a stronger position that 12 months ago.
