Anthony Gordon reacts to Bruno Guimaraes message as Liverpool plot Newcastle raid

Anthony Gordon has reacted to a new message from Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes amid recent reports of Liverpool’s continued interest in the England international winger.

Newcastle’s stellar 2024/25 domestic campaign means they are back in the Champions League for next season, and speedy winger Gordon once again played a key part in their success.

Former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider back in April that Gordon is the most likely star player to leave Newcastle this summer amid interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.

Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool have been told it would take an offer of £75-80million to sign Gordon, with Newcastle unwilling to sell him this summer due to their lack of PSR concerns.

The England international was recently pictured on holiday with Liverpool star Curtis Jones, though, and Football Insider revealed on 10 July that the Reds are still interested in a move to sign Gordon as they plot a late summer approach.

Bruno Guimaraes shares Newcastle training update

Gordon is not the only Newcastle player that could make the move to Anfield this summer, after Football Insider exclusively revealed on Tuesday (15 July) that Liverpool have submitted a bid of £130m for Alexander Isak as they plan a double swoop.

The Magpies have been training out in Austria ahead of their first summer fixture against Celtic on 19 July in the inaugural adidas Trophy (Celtic), and key midfielder Guimaraes took to Instagram on Tuesday, 15 July, to provide an update on his own progress, with numerous pictures of him in action alongside the caption: “Pre season” with an Austrian flag emoji.

Exit-linked Gordon moved to leave a like on his post, while other Newcastle players such as Joelinton, Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, Lewis Hall and Guimaraes’ international teammates Lucas Paqueta, Antony and Murillo all followed suit.

Liverpool should push for Gordon and sell Luis Diaz

Football Insider verdict

Gordon was born in Liverpool and is believed to be a boyhood Reds fan, and they should definitely make a genuine play to sign him soon, especially after recent reports of Barcelona’s interest in Luis Diaz, with the Colombian international looking to depart the Merseyside outfit in the coming weeks.

Gordon’s Newcastle career stats

Gordon registered nine goals and seven assists in 42 games in all competitions last season, which is less than Diaz’ 17 strikes and eight assists in 50 games, yet bringing him in instead of the Barracas-born winger for little overall outlay would represent great business by Liverpool.

England international Gordon is homegrown, much younger, and the exact type of winger that Slot needs right now to complement the likes of Florian Wirtz and Mo Salah, as he is direct and very quick over short distances, while he also wants to be at Liverpool, unlike Diaz.

Newcastle’s likely stubbornness in negotiations to sell him could well prove to be a major stumbling block in getting him to Anfield, but attempting to sign him is definitely worth a try from Liverpool’s point of view, especially while a deal for Isak also progresses ahead of the new campaign.
