Antonio Conte: Chelsea must be more like Tottenham in this way
By Dominic Toner
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes that his side must match Tottenham’s intensity to win the Premier League title.
The two London rivals both won on Saturday and maintained their spots at the top of the league table.
Spurs managed to win their match 4-0 over Watford in the afternoon and momentarily bridged the gap to just four points behind Chelsea.
However, Conte’s Blues opened up their seven-point lead once again by beating Bournemouth 3-1.
Conte believes that his side must show the same desire as their rivals Spurs to win the league crown and has credited his title rivals as a fantastic side.
“We have to continue in this way game by game, to be focused and to concentrate,” Conte said, as quoted by the Evening Standard. “Because for sure Tottenham has great desire to win the title. And we must have the same desire.
“Don’t forget Tottenham last season fought for the title until the end and it means that Tottenham are a really good team. Last season Chelsea finished 10th and now we are on top of the table. Tottenham are stronger than last season, it’s important we understand this.”
Chelsea have been the runaway leaders for the majority of the season and have been expected to wrap up the club’s fifth Premier League title.
However, a defeat at home to Crystal Palace last week gave the chasing pack a slim chance and Spurs have emerged as the most likely to catch them.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now in touching distance and have won their last six consecutive league games.
The two London clubs won a game each in their meetings this season and will renew their rivalry in the FA Cup semi-finals on 22 April.
In other Tottenham news, the club’s supporters reacted to a bizarre celebration during the Watford win.
