'Can't say no' - ESPN pundit names Tottenham star most likely to leave in near future
Former Newcastle United goalkeeper and pundit for ESPN Shaka Hislop has said that Harry Kane is the most likely Tottenham star to leave the club in the near future.
The England striker has been in imperious form this season, scoring at a rate of nearly a goal-per-game with 33 strikes in 34 appearances, and his exploits in front of goal are said to have attracted the attention of a number of suitors.
However Kane is not the only Tottenham star to have been linked with an exit, and the future of midfielder Dele Alli has also come into question.
However, when discussing the 21-year-old’s potential exit, Hislop rubbished the idea, and said that if one man was to depart the north London club it would be the 24-year-old striker, suggesting club’s may be willing to offer the sort of money which would turn chairman Daniel Levy’s head.
He told ESPN FC (01:55): “If Spurs do lose anybody valuable in the short term, it’ll be Harry Kane.
“I think anybody who is interested, and there are a few, are going to put such a big offer on the table that Daniel Levy, being the businessman that he is, can’t say no.
“As a result, I don’t think Spurs will want to, or need to, part with Dele Alli.”
Along with Kane, Alli has been a mainstay in the Tottenham first team this season, with 35 appearances and nine goals under his belt.
Football Insider verdict
Hislop’s thinking is certainly along the right lines, with clubs willing to fork out the money for Kane which could well convince Levy to sell up. However at the moment they do not need to get rid of anyone for finances, with Mauricio Pochettino having built up a squad which is full of depth in every position, apart from strikers perhaps. As such, sales certainly will not be at the forefront of anyone’s mind at the north London club, and only a seriously big money offer will tempt them for Kane or any other of the club’s star performers. Even the fringe players Spurs have are of a decent quality, and they will have premium price tags stuck on their heads too.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club’s 26-year-old is being eyed up by Liverpool amid a host of giants.
