Areola tipped to make West Ham debut tonight after source reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped West Ham to leave out Lukasz Fabianski hand Alphonse Areola his debut against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League on Thursday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Areloa could start West Ham’s Europa League games while Fabianski retains the gloves in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on September 9 David Moyes is planning on phasing in the summer signing before making him his number one on a permanent basis.

An Irons source has updated to Football Insider to reveal the clash against Zagreb has long been pinpointed by Moyes as a potential match for Areola’s debut.

The France international, who was part of the squad that won the 2018 World Cup, moved to the London Stadium on loan from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer.

He has had to settle for a place on the bench in the Premier League with Fabianski, 36, keeping one clean sheet in the opening four games.

Asked whether Moyes was right to eventually replace Fabianski with Areola, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, I think so.

“Get the younger goalkeeper in. Areola has done well in his career so far so it makes sense to get him and get him used to playing with that defence.

“The Europa League game would definitely be a good place to start. Then maybe you could have one keeper for the Europa League and one for the Premier League.”

Areola has previous European experience having played in 24 Champions League and Europa League games across his time with PSG, Real Madrid and Villareal.

West Ham have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season.
