Arsenal are in 'great position' after Sky Italy's Xhaka update - Campbell

Arsenal are in “a game of poker” with AS Roma regarding Granit Xhaka, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Mikel Arteta’s side “are in no rush” to sell the 28-year-old even though he is desperate to leave the Emirates.

Arsenal and Roma have been in deadlock over Xhaka’s fee for nearly a month.

According to Sky Italy (15th July), the Italian giants are unwilling to meet Arsenal’s asking price of £17million for the Switzerland international.

Jose Mourinho has made the centre-midfielder, who has two years remaining on his contract in north London, his top target this summer.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Xhaka’s future, Campbell said: “The deal does not have to be done right now.

“Arsenal are in a great position when it comes to Xhaka.

“Roma are desperate to sign the player but they want him on the cheap. Arsenal have named their price though and it will not be that easy.

“It is a game of poker now. Let’s see if they can find some common ground over the fee.

“At the end of the day though, Arsenal are in no rush to sell.

“Xhaka is on his break after the Euros so him and his people can get speaking to Roma. I’m sure he wants the deal to go through as quickly as possible.”
