Arsenal confirmed line-up: Giroud starts v West Brom

By Harry Sykes

Arsene Wenger has made two changes to the line-up to the Arsenal team to face West Brom at the Emirates at 3pm on Boxing Day.

Olivier Giroud starts and Alexis Sanchez joins him in the Arsenal attack in a game they need three points from.

Arsenal have lost two Premier League games on the bounce going into the Boxing Day game, and they lost both of them 2-1 after taking the lead against Everton and Manchester City.

The team news was announced on the official Arsenal Twitter page.

Nacho Monreal drops to the bench, with Kieran Gibbs starting on the left of defence. Theo Walcott is not in the squad.

Danny Welbeck has returned to training but this game comes too early for him, along with Aaron Ramsey, who is also returning from injury. Ramsey makes the bench.

Alex Iwobi keeps his place after an injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and he’s joined by Mesut Ozil, alongside Sanchez.

Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin start in midfield which means that Mohamed Elneny has to be content with a place on the bench again.

Arsenal’s defence is still missing Shkodran Mustafi which means Petr Cech is supported by Gibbs, Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel.

Arsenal are currently fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Chelsea. If they win today they will leapfrog Manchester City and take third place. City play Hull in the tea-time kick-off, with second-placed Liverpool playing tomorrow at home to Stoke.

In other Arsenal team news, the north London club has been installed as favourites to sign this West Ham attacker.
