Arsenal duo Rice and Lewis-Skelly react as Kane sends message after England mess

Harry Kane has taken to social media to issue an honest verdict on a disastrous international break for England, prompting a reaction from international teammates Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

From a personal perspective, the 2024/25 campaign had proven to be a rather significant one for the Three Lions captain.

Kane had played a key role in helping Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga title, in doing so finally earning the first major trophy of his career.

That will have been a major weight off the shoulders of the striker, although recent results for England will have given him plenty to think about.

Harry Kane reflects as Andorra frustrate and Senegal stun England

With the club campaign now over, focus has turned to international action at the start of June, although that has not been a productive period for the Three Lions.

On Saturday (7 June), England could only muster an underwhelming 1-0 win away to minnows Andorra in World Cup qualifying.

While that keeps them top of their qualification group in the race for a place in next year’s tournament, a worrying performance was not subsequently improved upon.

Instead, Tuesday night (10 June) saw Thomas Tuchel‘s side were beaten 3-1 by Senegal at The City Ground, before being booed off at full time.

Although Kane scored in both of those games, he has admitted there is a need to do better, even amid his pride in playing for England.

Taking to Instagram to reflect on those last two performances, the Three Lions captain wrote: “Always an honour to represent my country.

“Important win in the World Cup qualifiers but we know that we need to be better – every camp is really important. Thanks for all the support!”

In response, Arsenal pair Rice and Lewis-Skelly, who both featured alongside Kane for England in those games, showed their support by liking that post.

The striker’s former Tottenham teammate, Son Heung-min, would also do the same.

Thomas Tuchel already under pressure

Football Insider Verdict

Of course, players may point to the fact that these performances are a sympton of the tiredness that comes at the end of a long and hard season.

While there can be some sympathy around that, other nations whose players are in the same situation have put in much better performances than England during the international.

That cannot therefore really be treated as an excuse, especially given the World Cup, which the Three Lions are desperate to win, will be played in the same circumstances this time next year.

As a result, even after so little time in the job it already feels as though there is a need for Tuchel to come up with something quickly if he is to avoid questions soon being asked about his role.
