Arsenal-Edu Gaspar ‘fall-out’: Keith Wyness stunned by bombshell

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he would be shocked if Edu Gaspar left Arsenal for Nottingham Forest after speaking to Gunners sources.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed there has been no “unrest or fall-out” with the transfer chief at the Emirates Stadium.

According to bombshell reports in Brazil (2 August), Forest owner Marinakis is keen to poach Edu and install him in a role overseeing all three of his clubs across Europe.

The Greek billionaire owns Forest as well as Greek giants Olympiacos and Portuguese outfit Rio Ave.

Edu has been sporting director at Arsenal since 2022 after impressing in a technical director role and has been credited with helping Mikel Arteta’s side flourish into Premier League title challengers.

Edu not likely to quit Arsenal for shock Nottingham Forest move, says Wyness

Wyness suggested the Brazillian ex-midfielder doesn’t have the right “temperament” to deal with Marinakis at the executive level.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I was very surprised when I saw this news.

“Marinakis is a bold thinker, there’s no doubt.

“He must have thought that there could be a personal relationship between him and Edu.

“My sources haven’t told me of any sort of unrest or fall-out with him and Arsenal.

“Arsenal are ticking along well, and there seems to be a good relationship between him and Arteta.

“I would be very surprised if he were to leave for Nottingham Forest.

“This could be an example of a story the media get wrong.

“It could just be an agent or someone else stirring it up. I don’t see it happening.

“Marinakis is a very hands-on owner and I don’t see him giving someone control of his international assets.

“Whoever takes that role would be dealing with a very fiery owner.

“I don’t see it happening at the moment, I don’t think Edu has the right temperament. It’s not a great fit, but that could change.”
