Arsenal have entered talks with defender Stephan Lichtsteiner about moving to the Emirates Stadium next season, according to a report.
The Guardian claims that the Gunners are holding discussions with the right-sided flyer and he could become the first signing of new manager Unai Emery.
It is understood the right-back is available on a free transfer this summer, as his contract expires with Juventus and he leave the Italian giants as a serial winner.
Football Insider verdict:
Signing Lichtsteiner would be a smart addition to the Emery era and a decent signing for Arsenal on a free transfer. The experienced defender is set to captain Switzerland at the World Cup this summer and has proven he has brilliant quality. He is an attack-minded full-back that could make an instant impact at the Emirates Stadium and add a winning mentality to the dressing room. Most importantly, Lichtsteiner could also act as the perfect mentor for current right-back Hector Bellerin. The duo would be in fierce competition for the number one full-back spot at the Gunners, but 23-year-old Bellerin could learn a lot from his experienced counterpart. Emery has to make a number of additions to his squad if they are to improve next season and prioritising defence is a smart move. The North London club already posses the attacking firepower that can rip through most teams, but their backline has been well below par recently.
