Arsenal put CSKA to the sword in the first-leg of their Europa League tie with a resounding 4-1 victory against the Russians.

It was an action-packed opening 45 minutes in which five goals were registered at the Emirates.

The Gunners took an early lead in the tie through Aaron Ramsey, only for CSKA to equalise through Aleksandr Golovin who curled in a  free-kick from inside the D.

But Arsene Wenger’s side restored their lead when Mesut Ozil was brought down in the box and Alexandre Lacazette converted.

In the 28th minute, Ramsey put further daylight between themselves and the Russians when Ozil passed to the Welshman who back-heeled his effort into the back of the net – a sublime effort.

And then the goal which should end any hope of a Moscow comeback arrived when Ozil got another assist – this time the German playmaker found Lacazette in the box, whose touch and shot made it 4-1.

Supporters were in full-blown gloating mode after the result and took to Twitter to show their delight at having the French forward back in the starting line-up after missing the hitman for a number of weeks through injury.

Here is a selection of social media responses to the player’s performance:
