Arsenal fans rage at Gabriel Martinelli as his stats emerge from Newcastle defeat
Arsenal fans were furious with winger Gabriel Martinelli after his performance in their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle on Saturday (November 2).
The 23-year-old completed just one successful dribble, had six touches in the opposition box, and had a zero per cent cross-accuracy rate before being hooked off just after the hour mark.
Martinelli lost possession in the build-up allowing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak to score in his third consecutive game with a well-placed header following a delightful cross from Anthony Gordon.
The Brazilian winger has now been dispossessed 12 times in the Premier League alone so far this season, the third most in the Arsenal squad behind Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka.
Mikel Arteta’s team have now lost two league matches in their first ten games this season, having only lost five throughout the entire previous campaign.
Arsenal are now five points adrift of league leaders Man City and four behind Arne Slot’s Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title having conceded 11 goals in their last five games.
Gabriel Martinelli earns the ire of Arsenal faithful
Raheen Sterling was brought in on loan from London rivals Chelsea over the summer transfer window to help provide competition in that left-wing spot.
Still, Martinelli has been favoured by Arteta so far this season but Arsenal fans have taken to X, formally known as Twitter, to criticise his latest performance.
