Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi put in an ineffective display during the 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday – and fans on Twitter were livid.
The Arsenal support were already left furious at Arsene Wenger’s decision to start Iwobi for the crucial Champions League knockout-round tie, insisting that Danny Welbeck should have been preferred in attack.
However, his poor display against the German giants added further fuel to the fire, and fans took to social media in full force to berate the 20-year-old’s display.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Love what #wenger has done 4 us but baffled by his faith in #iwobi who has left us exposed time & again on right. #afc #coyg @Arsenal

Iwobi late to track back, leaving Gibbs isolated. Hence the cross. Hence the goal.
Should have been subbed off. Should never have started.

Iwobi can't defend. So lackluster. No help for Gibbs.

Iwobi was withdrawn from the game in the 66th-minute and replaced by Theo Walcott.
Despite all the qualities Iwobi has shown this season, his weaknesses in the defensive third were heavily exploited by Bayern, and it could well have cost Arsenal a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The Nigeria international winger failed to track back and helped left-back Kieran Gibbs in defence, which played into the hands of Bayern’s attacking unit – spearheaded by an energetic Arjen Robben.
Wenger has shown great trust in his young star this season, handing him 32 appearances in all competitions, including 24 starts.
Iwobi has returned the favour with four goals and six assists, but the fans have been less than impressed with his displays in recent weeks.
In other Arsenal news, fans have urged the club to sign this player following his display v Barcelona.
