Arsenal get green light to spend big this summer after confirmed news – Stefan Borson

Arsenal look set to fall short in their quest for a first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season, with Liverpool the overwhelming favourites to lift the trophy this term.

The Gunners may now turn their attention to the club’s transfer plans for the summer window after failing to back Mikel Arteta in January.

Arsenal suffered a £17.7million loss in the 2023-24 campaign despite posting a record-breaking revenue of £616.6million – a 32.1 per cent increase on the previous year.

Under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), clubs can only lose £105million across a three-year period before incurring punishment.

Borson ‘doesn’t accept’ Arsenal have PSR concerns

This season, Arsenal have already landed a guaranteed £75million windfall after finishing third in the revamped league phase of the Champions League.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider insisted he “doesn’t accept” any claims Arsenal may be in a vulnerable PSR position.

He insisted the Gunners’ transfer plans this summer will hinge on “a question of whether they want to spend the money”.

Borson told Football Insider: “This is a very strong set of results.

“The impact of being back in the Champions League was very big.

“They also did very well commercially and started to bridge that gap to Tottenham. They were a long way behind but are now not very far behind.

“Arsenal are in a very strong PSR position, and the same in UEFA.

“Any stories coming out that they may be restricted by that in the summer, I don’t accept that.

“They have plenty of capacity, it’ll be a question of whether they want to spend the money.

“It’s a very positive set of results overall. They’ll be generating around £100million from the Champions League this season, while also securing it for next season as well.”

Alexander Isak is a top target for Arsenal – but Liverpool are also keen.

Liverpool rival Arsenal for top target Isak

Arsenal are keen on a potential deal for Alexander Isak ahead of the summer window, but Newcastle want well in excess of £100million for their star man.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Sunday (16 February) that Liverpool’s interest in Isak is “genuine” and “very strong”.

Liverpool could offer Darwin Nunez in part-exchange for the Sweden international, who has hit 21 goals this season.
