Arsenal have 'something up their sleeve' after Bertrand transfer update - Campbell

Kevin Campbell fears Arsenal may have missed a trick as Ryan Bertrand finalises a move to Leicester City.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners striker is confident the club will have an alternative target “up their sleeve” who is younger than Bertrand, 31.

The left-back has attracted offers from a number of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, ahead of the expiration of his contract at Southampton this month.

As revealed by Football Insider, Leicester are set to win the race for Bertrand after he informed the Foxes he has accepted their contract offer.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in the market for a left-sided full-back to provide cover for Kieran Tierney next season.

When asked by Football Insider if Arsenal would rue missing out on Bertrand, Campbell said: “They might have missed a trick in Bertrand.

“I’m sure Arsenal have something up their sleeve though.

“It might be a blow, Bertrand heading to Leicester, because we know he has lots of Premier League experience.

“Who else are Arsenal looking at? They must be a few because realistically Kieran Tierney gets injured a fair bit. Arteta needs to have a capable deputy who is ready to player a decent amount of games across the season.

“Realistically, you want somebody a little bit younger than Bertrand, even though he has the added benefit of experience. I am sure Arteta and Edu have someone in mind.”
