Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is hopeful that Mesut Ozil will sign a contract extension at the Emirates in the near future.
The World Cup winning midfielder is elligible to engage in discussions with foreign clubs with regards to a pre-contract agreement, and Juventus have been heavily linked with the German.
However, as quoted by Football London, the French born manager is still hopeful that Ozil will remain an Arsenal player,
“Our intention is to keep Ozil at the club, hopefully we will do that very soon,
“The vibes I get from his commitment, his focus, his desire, for achievement with the team – he behaves like someone who is completely focused and committed and who is ready to commit.”
Ozil, who’s contract is set to run out at the end of the season, could leave the club by means of a free transfer if no agreement can be made, which would represent a collosal failure by Wenger to sure up his best talent.
Gunners fans will be frightened, as Alexis Sanchez has already departed the Emirates this month.
Football Inisder verdict:
Mesut Ozil is one of the best midfielders in the game today, and Arsenal must do whatever they can to retain his services. The German international has won three major honours at Arsenal, and even lifted the World Cup during his shift with the Gunners. If Juventus can snap him up on a free transfer it will be one of the biggest bargains of all time. Ozil’s impressive passing ability and vision make him one of the most valuable players to Arsenal, and the fact it has taken this long to try and re-sign him is concerning. Ozil must be Wenger’s highest priority if he is to keep his job.
In other Arsenal transfer news, one BBC journalist has stated that the Gunners are on the verge of completing this £53million transfer.
