Football Insider verdict:
Arsenal fans will be daring to dream once again with this news that a deal for the elite striker looks close. Arsenal fans have had so many letdowns over so many transfer windows that they must have been getting deja vu at reports that manager Arsene Wenger wasn’t offering what the Germans wanted. They seemed set to hold out for £60million but if these reports are true, the two sides have met somewhere in the middle. Moaning about Wenger’s approach to transfers might turn to begrudging respect for driving a fantastic deal if he can finally get this one over the line. If the reports are true, that might be as soon as tomorrow.
