Arsenal idol issues ‘devastating’ Pedro Neto verdict after journalist’s transfer update

Kevin Campbell has claimed Gabriel Martinelli would be most at threat if Arsenal signed Wolves winger Pedro Neto prior to the window closing.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gunners and Everton striker said Neto, 22, would be “devastating” for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal are in the market for offensive reinforcements.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (22 August), the London club’s priority is to sign Neto from Wolves.

Talks are said to have been taking place for over a month regarding a potential deal.

Neto has five years remaining on his contract at Molineux.

When asked by Football Insider who would be most a threat if Neto arrived, Campbell said: “Martinelli would be the one.

“The fact of the matter is, when there is competition for places the ones who have the shirt perform. If you are not performing there is somebody just as good waiting in the wings to get your spot. You have to perform of you may lose your place and not start for a long, long time. Competition for places is what Arsenal need.

“Neto is a different player to Martinelli. He is a lefty which would give the team a lot of balance.

“I think the way Arsenal are set up would really suit Neto. I think he would be devastating. He is good on the ball, is a good dribbler but is also very good off the ball.

“When you have a left-footed player on that left-hand side they can whip balls in for [Gabriel] Jesus.

“It is going to be interesting to see. I like Neto. I think he would be a really good addition.”
