Arsenal may be set for Buendia 2.0 hijack after transfer twist - pundit

Arsenal need to complete the signing of Ben White as soon as possible before a deal is hijacked, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward cited Arsenal’s failed pursuit of Emiliano Buendia as he suggested a similar situation could play out with White.

Football Insider learned on 3 July that the Gunners are confident of finalising a deal for White after the Euros finish.

Duncan Castles told The Transfer Window podcast on the same day Chelsea are monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation.

White was a late call-up to the England squad after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late injury but is yet to feature at the Euros.

Asked whether Chelsea could hijack his move to Arsenal, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“I think Arsenal have had a lot of that recently like Buendia going to Aston Villa.

“So it wouldn’t surprise me if someone offered the same money and Ben White choose the bigger club.

“If I was Arsenal I’d try and get it over the line as soon as possible.

“These other clubs will come sniffing. He’s a young, talented defender who’s only going to get better. He’s in the England squad for the Euros.

“Definitely it’s someone Arsenal need to get tied down as soon as possible.”

Last season was White’s first campaign playing regularly in the Premier League after he spent the previous season on loan with Leeds United.

The England defender penned a new four-year deal with Brighton last summer and went on to make 36 Premier League appearances last term.

In other news, Arsenal have accepted a £12million bid as personal terms are agreed.
