Arsenal are preparing to reignite their interest in attacker Julian Draxler after he has was shown the exit door at Paris. St Germain, according to a recent report.

The Times has revealed that the north London club are considering re-entering the race to sign the 23-year-old, who has also be eyed by European giants Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

The newspaper claims on their website that Arsene Wenger’s side have attempted to sign the winger on a number of occasions and even tried to secure his signature last summer.

Now, Arsenal have boosted in their hunt to sign him as it is understood that the Ligue 1 side told the German international on Thursday that he was surplus to the club’s requirements after their world-record signing of Neymar from Barcelona.

The report details that PSG are asking for around £32million for the attacker, after they signed him for £36million from Wolfsburg at the beginning of the year.

Draxler joined the club on a four-and-a-half year contract in January and scored 10 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.

The attack-minded winger was part of Germany’s World Cup winning squad in 2014 at the age of just 20, and was also named as his country’s captain where he led his team mates to lift the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Football Insider verdict

The news of Arsenal’s potential interest of Draxler is completely unsurprising as the winger would be a great fit in Wenger’s squad. The club could’ve switched their attention to the 23-year-old after the Gunners recently cooled their interest in Monaco winger Thomas Lemar earlier in the week. Draxler provides the same talent and excellence as Lemar as just a fraction of the price, so Wenger should act fast to ward off interest from other European clubs. In addition, the German provides proven leadership after captaining his country, and could take over the armband at the club as skipper Per Mertesacker is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season. Now, the Gunners manager must offload as many fringe players as possible in order to fund their bid for the PSG star.
