Arsenal star Declan Rice and Joao Pedro react to Levi Colwill’s Chelsea message
Arsenal star Declan Rice and Chelsea hero Joao Pedro reacted to a message from Levi Colwill on social media.
The Blues became the first team to win the Club World Cup and all three major European trophies with a 3-0 win over PSG on Sunday, 13 July.
Enzo Maresca’s side headed into the meeting with the champions of Europe as stark underdogs.
But an early strike from Cole Palmer set the tone for the afternoon’s meeting between the English and French powerhouses, before the former Man City man doubled his and the Blues’ tally with a wonderfully placed effort past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Joao Pedro only joined Chelsea from Brighton on 5 July but the Brazilian scored his third goal of the tournament to make it three on the afternoon for Maresca’s team.
Despite Donald Trump’s best efforts to steal the spotlight, the Blues lifted their second piece of silverware in just a matter of weeks after beating Real Betis in the Conference League final.
The focus now will turn to preparations for the 2025/26 season as Chelsea have just one month before their opening Premier League game against Crystal Palace.
Levi Colwill poses with CWC trophy
Following the triumph over PSG, Colwill shared an image of himself posing with the CWC trophy whilst also holding the key that opens the trophy.
The post was liked by the defender’s England teammate Rice and club teammate Pedro, with the pair showing support for the young centre-back.
Chelsea yet to find consistent Colwill partner
Football Insider Verdict
Despite being one of the CWC’s best-performing players, Colwill’s struggles last season still linger in the mind.
The 22-year-old remains one of the world’s best young defenders, but the constant chopping and changing that took place at the back last term took its toll.
At various points last season, Colwill was partnered with Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, and Wesley Fofana.
Learning how to adapt to the changing playstyles of the centre-backs alongside him harmed the England international’s performances.
And with a squad now looking capable of vying for a Premier League title, Chelsea and Maresca must settle on one of the many defenders available to them, or risk further damaging Colwill’s confidence, and their chances of becoming champions of England next season.
