Arsenal warned of 'phenomenal' backlash after source's Smith-Rowe update - Hutton
Alan Hutton has claimed the backlash from Arsenal fans would be “absolutely phenomenal” if Aston Villa sign Emile Smith Rowe.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa star suggested the Gunners could lose the trust of supporters by selling the 20-year-old.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (July 6th), Aston Villa are prepared to table a third, near club-record bid for Smith Rowe.
The Villans have already bid £25million and £30million for the attacking midfielder.
Tellingly, a Villa source has told Football Insider Arsenal have not given a definitive ‘no’ to the Villans’ pursuit.
Hutton admitted he always thought his old side would launch a fresh bid for Smith Rowe.

However, he insisted supporters in north London would be furious if an offer is accepted.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I thought they’d put in another bid and it looks like it’s coming.
“I just don’t know where Arsenal are at, at the moment. I’m kind of on the fence.
“I was thinking are they going to let him go? The fans will go mental so I’m in the middle at the moment.
“If he does leave Arsenal, wow. The fallout from that I think would be absolutely phenomenal.
“It just shows you there’s a shift in big clubs at the moment. Obviously, Aston Villa are throwing about their weight.
“They’re not scared to put their money where their mouth is and they’re just attacking it. “
A graduate of the youth ranks in north London, Smith Rowe has made 45 appearances for Arsenal to date.
He played 37 times across all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign, with seven goals under his belt.
