Arteta told to drop 'lazy' Aubameyang as 'he doesn't do anything' for Arsenal - pundit

Frank McAvennie has slammed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and claimed he “doesn’t do anything” for Arsenal.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Gunners need “workers”.

Aubameyang, 32, has started eight of Arsenal’s nine Premier League games this season.

He remians the club captain and has scored four goals in his league outings.

The Gunners are unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions and have risen to sixth in the Premier League table.

Aubameyang has also scored a hattrick in August’s EFL Cup win over West Brom.

However, McAvennie has not been impressed with the forward and claimed he needs to do more for his teammates.

“This is going to sound daft,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Aubameyang doesn’t do anything. He scores goals, yes. But he should be scoring a lot more.

“He should also do a lot more for the team. He kind of just stands there.

“That’s not good enough for Arsenal. God knows how he’s the captain. He never looks interested to me.

“Arsenal need workers and he’s not one. He’s as far away from that as you can get. He’s lazy.

“But Arteta can’t stop him because he’s the captain. That’s what I would do.”

Arsenal are next in action against Watford on Sunday afternoon as they look to break into the top four.

Arteta’s side then face a trip to Anfield after the international break.
