Everton defender Ashley Williams insists that teammate Romelu Lukaku is one of the world’s best strikers.
Lukaku netted his 18th goal of the season in the 2-o victory over Sunderland at the weekend, continuing a blistering run of form that has seen him score five goals in his last three league appearances.
The goal at Goodison Park on Saturday drew the 23-year-old level with former Everton hero Duncan Ferguson as the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League with 60 goals.
In an interview with TalkSport, Williams hailed the performances of Lukaku this season, insisting that the Belgian international was already a world-class footballer.
“He’s top class,” he began. “I would say he’s world-class. His record speaks for itself, with so many goals at such a young age.
“Anyone who watches him and sees his finishing ability alone will put him up there [in the top 10].
“It’s nice to watch him week-in, week-out, and work with him every day. I hope he keeps scoring for us.”
Lukaku managed to equal Ferguson’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record in much quicker time, needing 110 games fewer then the Scotsman.
He is also currently level with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Tottenham’s Harry Kane at the top of the goalscoring charts in the current league campaign, with 17 goals from 25 games.
However, unlike both Sanchez and Kane, the Everton hitman has managed to score four goals in a single game this season, putting them past Bournemouth on February 4.
His form has once again seen him linked with a move away from Goodison Park in the summer, but the player’s agent Mino Raiola has recently stated that Lukaku was set to extend his stay with the Merseyside club.
In other Everton news, Michael Ball believes this is why Ademola Lookman might struggle this season.
