21-year-old Aston Villa star should be benched for Burton clash

COMMENT by Amir Mir

Aston Villa welcome Burton Albion to the Midlands for a mouth-watering Boxing Day encounter in front of a sell-out crowd.

Steve Bruce must be bold in his team selection for this fixture and keep star man Jack Grealish on the bench.

The 21-year-old was an unused substitute during Villa’s last league game at QPR, where the away side clinched a much-needed three points.

Bruce’s side put in a match-winning performance at Loftus Road and despite the quality on the bench, the Villa manager must not be tempted into making a change.

Grealish may be one of their top performers this season, in particular on home soil, but Bruce needs to be brave and stick with his winning formula.

This will allow consistency to grow, which would help Bruce analyse which players are his most consistent performers going into the January transfer window.

The busy and packed festive break will make it difficult for the former Hull boss to keep his starting XI throughout, but for this match, eight days since their last encounter, Bruce can afford to name the same side.

This will also add real value and a threat from the bench, if the home side needs to utilise it against the Championship minnows.
