Aston Villa ace Tyrone Mings bids farewell after confirmed retirement news
Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings took to social media to send a message to former teammate James Chester after his retirement.
Former Aston Villa centre-back James Chester, 36, has announced his retirement on social media, having represented Hull City and Villa at club level while earning 35 international caps for Wales.
Chester joined League Two side Salford City after being released by Barrow at the end of last season but made just two appearances across all competitions for the Manchester club.
The two defenders had two seasons together, helping Villa earn promotion back to the Premier League in the 2018-19 campaign.
Mings is currently out injured after damaging his knee in Villa’s 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham earlier in the season, although it’s not said to be ‘serious’.
He has suffered several serious knee injuries, tearing his ACL for the first time while at Bournemouth back in 2015, ruling him out for 388 days, and then again in 2023 at Villa, forcing him to miss 446 days.
Tyrone Mings sends Aston Villa farewell message
Mings had been key for Villa since returning from his most recent ACL injury earlier in the campaign, starting 10 of his 11 games across all competitions and providing zero goal contributions in his 849 minutes of action.
Villa remain in contention Champions League qualification come the end of the season, sitting in eighth with 37 points, six behind Chelsea in fourth.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that despite their impressive season Villa are pushing the limits of PSR after their busy January window, and will likely have to sell players in the summer.
Mings took to Instagram to respond to Chester’s retirement announcement, saying: “What a legend you are mate! Congrats on a brilliant career.”

Villa take on relegation-threatened Ipswich Town on Saturday (February 15) hoping to gain further ground on the top four.
