Aston Villa backed to 'blow Tottenham away' by pundit after 'massive statement'
Aston Villa go into Sunday’s Premier League game against Tottenham as favourites.
That’s according to former Villains hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Villa’s form.
Aston Villa won at Old Trafford last weekend and sit three places ahead of Spurs in the league.
Tottenham are in terrible league form, losing their last three games while also conceding three goals in each loss.
Smith knows as much, and is quoted by The Independent as highlighting how the Spurs defence is “struggling”.
Meanwhile, Villa are three points away from the European places with summer signings Danny Ings and Emi Buendia catching the eye.

McAvennie claims Villa can lay down a marker with a “massive statement” if they go to Tottenham and pick up three points.
“They go into the game as favourites, for me,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It would be a massive statement if they can go to Tottenham and get a win.
“That, for me, isn’t out of the question. There are some brilliant players there and there is that confidence.
“Coming off the back of a win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, I think they will try to blow them away.
“Smith can shut a lot of people up in that game. He keeps having to deal with questions over his future.
“He’s a top coach and he can exploit the sour mood at Tottenham.”
Aston Villa will be without summer signing Leon Bailey when they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He is yet to recover from an injury he picked up during an impressive performance against Everton two weeks ago.
