Kieran Maguire: Aston Villa to rocket past £25m as American deal agreed

Aston Villa are likely to see their commercial income soar past the £25million they earned from sponsorship and retail in 2020-21 thanks to their renewed commitment with Fanatics.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news from Villa’s commercial department.

Villa announced last Wednesday (8 June) that they had signed a new deal with American merchandise specialists Fanatics.

Sport Business reported the arrangement will run until at least 2029, meaning Villa will have been partnered with the firm for 12 years.

Villa revealed commercial income of £25m for the 2020-21 campaign, the most recent financial year on record.

And Maguire forecasts that the length of the new Fanatics deal will give them enough time to grow this revenue stream even further.

“This gives certainty for both sides,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Villa can effectively focus on other issues by outsourcing this to Fanatics. Fanatics themselves have got certainty of building up a long-term relationship with potential customers and taking advantage of that.

“They can concentrate on pushing that figure up a notch.

“It is very different from front-of-shirt where somebody wants their brand in front of as many eyeballs as possible. In a lot of cases, they don’t particularly care about who they are sponsoring. They move from one club to the next.”

Villa finished 14th in the Premier League last season 2021-22.

They begin their pre-season programme against Walsall on 9 July.
