Kieran Maguire: Multiple Euro talents could join Aston Villa as Edens opens reported talks

Aston Villa chiefs are exploring the possibility of investing in another club in order to attract “quality” European talent.

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after Portuguese outlet Record reported that Wes Edens is interested in investing in Vitoria Guimaraes.

Edens is claimed to have recently travelled with Villa sporting director Johan Lange to meet with Vitoria chairman Pinto Lisboa.

Vitoria finished 7th in the Portuguese top-flight this season and their future ownership is understood to be up in the air.

Maguire claimed that a multi-club model could be beneficial for Villa in terms of their recruitment in a post-Brexit environment.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It’s a sign that Nasseff Sawiris and Wes Edens have a long-term strategic vision for the club.

“With Multi-club ownership, one of the benefits is that it can be used as a recruiting vehicle within the European Union for quality players.

“It’s also an opportunity to put people out on loan. You aim to have the same training methods on a universal basis so players become interchangeable.

“The downside that you sometimes have when players come from one club to another in terms of culture and familiarisation and so on is therefore diminished.”

Edens is no stranger to the multi-club model as he owns NBA team the Milwaukee Bucks.

He bought into Villa alongside Sawiris in 2018.
