Aston Villa could accept Leon Bailey offer after transfer update – pundit

Paul Robinson has suggested Leon Bailey faces a defining seven months at Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Unai Emery will know by the summer whether or not to build his team around Bailey, 25.

Bailey has been one of the standout player since Emery has replace Steven Gerrard at Villa Park.

According to the Daily Mail‘s Dominic Hogan (19 November), Chelsea are considering a move for Bailey in 2023.

The Blues are said to view the Jamaica international as a potential replacement for Christian Pulisic.

When asked by Football Insider if Villa should keep hold of Bailey, Robinson said: “It will be interesting to see what the manager wants to do.

“There is a reason why Aston Villa are in a predicament. Was it the manager, the players or both?

“Emery has been brought in to improve the team and that might involve some difficult decisions. A lot will depend on what funds he has available.

“Bailey is a very good player and he has already looked better under Emery. I think he is capable of being a top player at Villa. I think Emery will use him as a regular between now and the end of the season.

“Most players fall victim to not being in the manager’s plans at some stage in their career. A lot will depend on how Bailey performs between now and the end of the season.”
