Aston Villa fans fear the worst for Youri Tielemans as concerning update emerges

Youri Tielemans’ latest update emerging from Villa Park has left supporters sweating over the Aston Villa superstar this season.

Football Insider understands that Villa want Tielemans to sign a new deal, with the Belgian continuously impressing his manager over the past few Premier League campaigns.

Unai Emery has already been without Tielemans, missing several matches between September and November, and that could happen once again after the latest blow away from Villa Park.

The 28-year-old lasted 74 minutes as Villa beat Newcastle United 2-0 at St James’ Park this weekend, eventually being replaced by Lamare Bogarde, though many thought it was precautionary.

That might not be the entire truth, however.

Aston Villa push ahead for Douglas Luiz’s signature

According to The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell (27 January), the Villans have stepped up their pursuit of Douglas Luiz, who appears set to leave Nottingham Forest before the transfer window closes.

Emery is already without Boubacar Kamara until the end of the season, with John McGinn also picking up an injury, and fans are now starting to fear the worst over Tielemans’ latest setback.

One supporter is extremely “worried” that the transfer news could mean their midfield maestro is sidelined long-term, despite Tanswell reassuring fans that Luiz was being considered anyway.

Another was furious that Tanswell briefly mentioned the injury blow without elaborating on it, but those at Villa Park are likely to be kept in the dark until the manager has his next press conference.

Should Aston Villa be worried about Youri Tielemans’ injury history?

At the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign, Tielemans missed 14 matches for club and country, and it coincided with some very bad form at Villa Park.

Before this season, he had missed six games with a calf injury, three and three games with two separate groin setbacks, and another two games through another calf problem.

And during his time with Leicester City, the midfielder missed a total of 17 games for club and country, but it remains to be seen just how serious the issue is for Emery and his team.

The manager’s options in the middle of the park are dwindling, and dwindling fast. While Amadou Onana is more than talented enough to control the midfield, he cannot be trusted to stay fit either.
