Robbie Keane has confirmed that “a few offers” have been made by Championship clubs – and Aston Villa fans on Twitter have urged the club to sign him.
The 36-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving MLS side LA Galaxy as the former Premier League striker has a wealth of experience under his belt.
Keane revealed on Wednesday that he has received offers from various clubs but no decision has been made in regards to his future.
“There has been a few offers from championship teams, but I don’t want to mention too much – that wouldn’t be fair to them,” Keane told TalkSport.
The former Republic of Ireland international has scored 131 goals during his time as a top-tier footballer, including playing in the Champions League.
He represented Villa for a short period of time in 2012 when he made a loan move to the Midlands impressing the supporters by scoring three goals in seven games.
Now, fans on social media have urged the club to re-sign Keane as Steve Bruce’s side desperately require a much-needed boost in the attacking department.
Supporters stated that a small stint from the former Premier League player would be of great help to the club.
One fan was also of the opinion that he would rather take Keane on a free transfer rather than sign Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes for a £10million fee.
Overall, supporters believe Keane making a return to Villa Park would be a great acquisition for the second half of their Championship campaign.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
