Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Gareth Barry comments

By Amir Mir

Gareth Barry has not ruled out a move to Aston Villa – and fans on Twitter have urged the midfielder to come back home.

The 36-year-old is currently plying his trade in the Premier League with Merseyside giants Everton, but his contract at Goodison Park ends in the summer.

Furthermore, the Toffees purchased Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schienderlin in January with Idrissa Gueye and academy product Tom Davies the other players utilised in his role.

As a result, it has seen the former England international’s game time reduced under Ronald Koeman and when he was asked about a move to Villa in the summer, Barry did not rule out a move.

“I do get that asked a lot,” told Barry to the Express and Star. “You never say never but Everton is my sole focus at the moment.

“I look out for their results all the time. The majority of my friends are from Birmingham and supporting either Villa or Blues.”

Barry broke through the ranks at Villa Park in 1998 where he spent 11 years with the former European champions before leaving for Manchester City in 2009.

At that time, City were direct Champions League rivals with Villa, but the Midlands club have since fallen down to the Championship.

They are set to spend another season in England’s second tier and many fans urged the Holte End hero to make a return to the club.

Supporters were in agreement that he should return home as his experience could help the club make a return to the promise land under Steve Bruce next season.

At this moment in time, Mile Jedinak, Henri Lansbury and Conor Hourihane are the midfield players for Bruce with academy product Gary Gardner as back up.
