Aston Villa fans have torn into January midfield signing Conor Hourihane on Twitter after he struggled to impress once again on Monday evening.
The 26-year-old midfielder started in his side’s midfield and lasted the whole 90 minutes, but many felt that he was unimpressive as Villa fell to a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle at St James’ Park.
The loss has only added to an extremely poor run of form which has seen the Midlands giants lose five of their last five games with Hourihane playing the full 90 in all of them.
The midfielder joined with a big reputation after starring at Barnsley and many felt that he would be the answer to their struggles.
However, one of his main criticisms from fans on social media is that he simply hasn’t shown up in any of the matches he’s played in.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
I don't understand the positioning at all mate, Lansbury too deep and Hourihane just floats and looks lost wtf

– Bjarnason, Lansbury, Hourihane & Jedi are a very uninspiring quartet. Wheres the magic, creativity or spark of invention?

I give Lansbury credit not hiding but Hourihane is nothing another Westwood

Hourihane was a star of the Barnsley team in their rise up from League One and consolidation in the Championship this season with 31 goals and a very impressive 46 assists in 134 appearances for the Yorkshire club.
However, he has so far failed to recapture that form at a bigger club in Villa and the increased expectations could be having some affect on the midfielder alongside others.
In other Aston Villa news, fans were furious at Bruce for this selection choice ahead of the Newcastle clash.
