Aston Villa handed huge boost in reported pursuit of PL enforcer as manager confirms exit
Aston Villa have been handed a huge boost by Jose Mourinho over Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe.
Speaking in a press conference, as quoted by the Express, Mourinho acknowledges that he has many players above Tuanzebe in the pecking order.
“Axel Tuanzebe plays in a position where I have so many players, today on the bench I had Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof, and Eric Bailly is still in recovery, so I’m not giving the chances to Axel.”
Steve Bruce is eyeing the 20-year-old as cover for the current Villa pairing at centre-half of James Chester and John Terry.
Mourinho stated that Tuanzebe is one of the players he would consider allowing to leave the club on a loan deal.
“So probably Axel is the only one that I open the door for him to go and play because I believe he is a really good talent and he needs to play.”
Football Insider verdict:
This deal looks likely to happen. Manchester United are stacked in terms of defensive depth, and the opportunities for first team action are few and far between. Mourinho rates the young defender, but understands his need to play in competitive fixtures to continue his development. Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa are good suitors, as the 20-year-old will have the chance to play and learn under one of the best defenders of all time in John Terry.
