Aston Villa impress Keith Wyness after securing ‘great deal’
Tammy Abraham is being backed to enjoy a successful second spell at Aston Villa after re-joining the club.
That is according to ex-Aston Villa, Everton, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Unai Emery’s side confirmed the signing of Abraham.
Aston Villa paid Besiktas £18million for Abraham, as the Turkish club had an option to buy the striker for £11m included in their loan agreement with Roma.
Donyell Malen’s departure to Roma from Aston Villa meant signing a striker was a top target for Emery in this window.
Tammy Abraham suits Aston Villa ‘very well’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Aston Villa did well to get a “complex” deal over the line.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Abraham is a “proven striker” who will improve Aston Villa.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well it was a difficult deal to get done because there was the complication, I think of him being on loan, so he had to get approval from the club who didn’t want to give him back on loan, and then you had the club that owned him etc.
“So there were a few little parts of that little transfer triangle and if one of the three parties isn’t willing, then it makes it harder. Anyway it was resolved, its been done and he is back. Now Tammy was loved by the Villa fans, he had a very good spell there before. He’s a bit of a handful and I think he’ll suit Unai Emery’s formation very well.
“I think Emery’s doing well. I think, look, we know that they’re perhaps overperforming, as we just discussed in terms of financial limitations. But I think Tammy Abraham at that sort of level is a proven striker who likes Villa Park and I think will do very well with that squad.
“And so I think it’s a great move for Villa and I think this is a good deal financially for them and I think it’s a great deal on the pitch. Thumbs up for that one, and I think they’ve done well to get it across the line because it’s quite complex.”

Aston Villa close in on second signing
Emery is now targeting a midfielder with Youri Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn all on the sidelines.
Aston Villa could re-sign Douglas Luiz on loan until the end of the season, with the Brazilian currently at Nottingham Forest.
Luiz is out of favour at the City Ground, with his parent club Juventus prepared to recall him in order to send him out on another loan.
